FAQ'S
Be organised, make sure you have a dog bed, blanket, some chew toys, the right food and you have puppy proofed your house, yard and the environment you pup will have access to.
Pups take about 24hrs to settle in and its very common the will sleep the first night as their first day is a "big day" for them.
From my experience, they are super intelligent and they just want to please you. They are highly intuitive and can read your emotions and they know when to be by your side and when to leave you be. They love to learn and you can teach them almost anything. They also have a strong sense of "knowing who they are" so if you train them correctly and make the effort in the first 2 years, you will have a well behaved family member.
Pups can only hold their bladder for certain times depending on their age. What this means is that each week, they can hold it longer than the previous one. When they are around 4-5 months old, they should be able to sleep thru the night.
The best tip is this: When your pup wakes up, take it outside immediately and say "do wee's & poo's" as this is how I train them. They will wee almost instantly but can take up to 20 mins to poo.
They also poo after dinner, so when you feed them, leave them outside until you know they have done one.
Great question. One of the most important things is to train your puppy in everything from the moment you get it. I fake brush my puppies each day and rub them with a towel. This gets them use to it so it becomes normal. If your dog is older then its really important to start brushing them with your hands and making it like a nice light massage. You can hold a brush in one of the hands and slow start to introduce it. In regards to a wash again, I start washing the puppies frequently from 5 weeks old, this helps them get used to the routine.
One of the most important tips is to remain calm yourself and keep up with it. You can also use treats to distract them and most of all if they get a nice warm rub at the end, they soon learn to stand still so they can get to the good bit at the end. Hope this helps. There is also a training video on TIKTOK with some tips.
Aussies can be Velcro dogs if you train them to be. for example: If you bring your puppy up to be with you all the time, this is what you teach it to "Be" so thats what they will be.
It's important to start teaching your fur baby to be alone so that when you're not there, it's totally independent and enjoys it's own time which helps you train a well balanced dog.
Recently when I raised my last 2 pups, I let them sleep outside until they were about 4 months old and this taught them thats "where they sleep" and now I'm training them to sleep inside. Now, "they are happy to sleep inside or outside" which makes it easy for both yourself the dogs. It gives you flexibility and you don't get a crying dog outside the door.
